I finished the book! It's such a great combination of suspense and mystery and tragedy. Told through the eyes of an unusually insightful seventeen year old boy named Alex, this story asks questions that most people would rather not think about. After the moon is knocked closer to the Earth, Alex watches helplessly as his beloved New York City slowly devolves into a suburban jungle teeming ruled by anarchy. He watches the citizens becomeless cognitive, thinking, moral people day by day. He sees people body-shopping on the street. He sees people dropping like flies. And he watches his controlled, carefully mapped-out life turn into chaos and insanity.

I agree with Angel, everyone should read it because it made my imagination soar and would probably do the same to many others.

Tue, 21 Oct 2008 09:43:39

okay, we have a dilemma here, b/c i know like 1/2 of you are done, and like 1/2 of you aren't. honestly, i'm also hecka busy rite now, too, helping like 300 seniors with their research papers! so, if it's all good in the 'hood, i say let's delay it just a wee bit. we'll enjoy grubbing & talking way more when we're less stressed. so... what about friday the 14th of november? would work for everyone? of not then pls suggest a different date. and then right before thanksgiving, we'll get you your new books! k? k! =)

I finished the book, and thought it was okay. The moon is obviously an analogy for global warming. The flooding can be caused rising sea levels, the ash that was in the air is the same as smog, and the freezing that went on simulates the food shortages. I personally think that the volcanoes were an analogy of nuclear war, with the volcanoes being the bombs and the ash being a nuclear winter.

Wed, 12 Nov 2008 04:11:46

Sold is a book of poems that lifts the veil shielding the shadowed life of underage girls sold in prostitution. A fast read, but worth it.

mskoval =)

Sun, 30 Nov 2008 06:36:37

darling bookclubbers,

i am SO with you on wanting to get reading the next book. there's just one slight problem... we can't afford to buy any yet because there's like 10 ppl who still need to turn in their copies of tdatg... maybe renesha can make ppl give them back! =)

but all that aside, i agree, i think we should meet next week, and twice is fine with me. we're going to have to start fundraising -- that means selling stuff for cash to be able to afford to buy new books -- since generous benefactors willing to fully finance our activities aren't materializing out of thin air! gee, imagine that! =) so, if it's new books we want, sorry but we're gonna have to work for 'em!

another option is changing the format the club (for a while at least) to be b.y.o.b. style. meaning, bring your own books. we all read what we want and come and talk about it. that way, we don't just hear about one good book, but lots. since we all read on our own anyway, right? =)

let's meet in the library @ lunch on tuesday & thursday this week. or wednesday & friday. whenever! but we need to meet. because i need your help. this is your club. and if you want it to rock, it's on you now. =)

mskoval =)

Fri, 12 Dec 2008 04:44:21

yay yay! today's the big day! it's our first "bucks for books" bake sale! woo hoo! =) here's wishing us happy customers and huge profits! =) thanks to you all for baking or buying sweet stuff to sell -- especially your awesome parents!! =)
